You’d be forgiven for forgetting that Westlake Village, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, is actually in the westernmost reaches of Los Angeles County.
A world away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and downtown, this is a place where civilization blends easily into the hilly countryside of Southern California. It’s a relaxing oasis just outside of a land of endless activity, and as such, a much-welcome respite.
Westlake Village has a small population of about 8,500 residents. Set up as a cattle ranch in the 1880s, it is now a laidback community focused mostly on outdoor activities. Right at the town’s doorstep is the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area, home to amazing hiking trails featuring stunning ocean and city views from the surrounding peaks. Those seeking watersports from swimming to boating and fishing (permits required) can go to Westlake Lake. There are also great parks to explore: Berniece Bennett Park, Westlake Village Community Park and Russell Ranch Park, to name a few.
