The capital of California is pretty much smack dab in the middle of the state.
Sacramento was originally settled by the native cultures of Nisenan and Plains Miwok. It got its current name from the first Spanish colonies to arrive in 1808. History buffs flock here to explore the city’s fabled past, and museum hounds have no end of places to visit. Epicureans and club hoppers will have plenty to do as well.
Sacramento is home to over half a million people with the greater metro area swelling to well over 2 million more. Alluring neighborhoods and destinations in the city proper include Downtown, Old Sacramento, Tahoe Park, Cal Expo, Midtown and East Sacramento. Cities like San Francisco and San Jose are reachable by car in about ninety minutes to two hours. And there’s a great deal of natural beauty to enjoy such as Folsom Lake State Recreational Area, Deer Creek Hills, Tahoe National Forest, Eldorado National Forest, Mendocino National Forest, and Yosemite National Park.
