Few places in Europe blend Old World charm and modern cosmopolitanism in quite the way Vienna, Austria does.
This is a place where one can trace the steps great classical composers of the 18th century walked while finding the best examples of modern art just down the street. The music, the food, the architecture – there’s no end the feast for the senses which this city provides. It’s lovely to look at and extraordinary in its grace and vibrancy.
With close to 2 million people, the capital of Austria has a very long history going back to 500 BC when a settlement of Celts lived there. The city as we know it came to be in the 10th and 11th centuries, spawning the famous Hapsburg Empire. There is no end to the amazing neighborhoods to explore. We recommend Inner Stadt, Leopoldstadt, Neubau, Ottakring, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, Landstrasse, Margareten, and the university district of Alsergrund. Shopping, cafes, bars, jazz clubs, chamber music – it’s all here to discover and you can do it largely just by walking.
