Halfway down the Lesser Antilles, the island chain which stretches down the Caribbean towards South America, Saint Lucia shines as a tropical gem.
This lush destination has more than ¾ of its space covered in forests with imposing volcanic mountains looming overhead. Beaches welcome sunbathers and swimmers to white sands and emerald waters while the cities and towns sport a wealth of delicious cuisine, plenty of shopping and a thriving nightlife scene.
About 180,000 people live on Saint Lucia’s 238 square miles, with most making their homes along the coast. Many of the most popular activities take place in the sea both above and below the water, with hiking and trekking following in the natural spaces. But there’s plenty of culture to explore as well from delicious drinks to fantastic music. Check out areas like the capital of Castries for duty-free shopping, the town of Soufriere for great views and casual eateries, Pigeon Island for terrific snorkeling and hiking, and Gros Islet for some casino action.
