Built on the Pacific Ocean, the Canadian city of Vancouver lies at the southwestern corner of the country in the province of British Columbia.
Known as “The City of Glass,” it's equally loved for its romantic fogbanks and dazzling mountain views as it is for family activities and its thriving cultural scene. Canada’s third-largest city is home to over 2.5 million people in its greater metropolitan area, by far the largest in British Columbia. Composed of dozens of neighborhoods, standouts include Gastown, Chinatown, Yaletown, Stanley Park, the Olympic Village, Fairview, and the Downtown area. West End and Kitsilano are both known for their laid-back beach scenes. Nearby communities offer additional attractions in the great outdoors, such as Victoria on Vancouver Island (and its amazing Butchart Gardens), Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, Garibaldi Park, Whistler Mountain, and Grouse Mountain. There are also opportunities to go whale watching and see the famous local orca pods who make their home in these waters.
